Summer on the Roof of England

June is a very special time in the #NorthPennines when a wealth of wild flowers are to be seen everywhere and birds are nesting and rearing their young up here on the#RoofofEngland.

Had a lovely peaceful walk on the Bank Holiday away from all the crowds along the banks of the East Allen, now blooming with flowers including our lovely mountain pansies, and enjoyed the sights and sounds of curlew and lapwing wheeling overhead, a beautiful song -thrush beside the river, and birds of the water: wild mallard, wagtails pied and grey (or might have been yellow? – just caught a glimpse) then a dipper, and finally heard the cuckoo loud and clear – good to know they’re still around even though not the best loved of birds!
